It has been about four months ago that we started this project off with the support of digital pioneers. So it is time to look back a bit, and look forward.
To start with, we underestimated the amount of work, as our current developer Robin already mentioned in
his blogpost. We planned on having a beta product ready by the end of april, but that seems unrealistic now. The next days a new planning will be determined, but the goal will still be to present a working product (albeit beta) by the end of our digital pioneers funding.
Another thing we underestimated was the amount of time the volunteers (mainly Erik and me) have to put in to this project to make it a succes. We now finally have something of a project architecture coming together though, as this weblog exemplifies. This weblog also marks the shift of focus from setting up the internal structures to facing outward and getting the community interested.
Another important step is the registration of the
sourceforge project space, where we will shortly be putting online the first snippets of code.
Financially, things are still on budget. That is, if we only look at the original budget. It has become clear that more paid development might very well be necessary. There is not enough of a community yet to take over the project after Robin's term ends. We therefore need to look into further funding (suggestions are welcome of course).
So, summarizing. We have done a great deal of research and have invested in a solid project infrastructure. Next up is community building and securing continued funding.
